Then we will go to appreciate the parrot clay licks and we will continue navigating to Cocha Maravilla, from a platform we will appreciate the mammal clay licks. We will make a next stop in the Shinyuta community, and we will visit the hot springs and waterfalls in the area.
- Itinerary
Pick up from the hotel between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. by private bus. On the way we will visit the funeral towers or Chullpas de Ninamarca at 3750 masl and a brief visit to Paucartambo, a folkloric town. We will ascend to the Acjanaco area (4000 masl). Then we descend through the mysterious cloud forest which is home to a wide variety of wild flora and fauna, lorquids, heliconias and primitive ferns. We will take a walk to witness the Cock of the Rocks.
There are also possibilities to observe Trogone, Quetzals and much more. With some luck we will be able to observe the spectacled bear. In the afternoon we will arrive at the town of Pilcopata at 550 masl and from there to our hostel with private bathrooms and showers, located on the outskirts of the town, where we will spend the night.
After a delicious breakfast, we will visit the community of Santa Rosa de Huacaria to see their way of life and medicinal plants. We will then return to our hostel to have dinner and spend the night comfortably.
Today after breakfast we will walk in the jungle and then we will continue our trip by bus to Atalaya, height of 490 masl. Here we will embark by boat for 30 minutes to the Paititi lodge, where we will have lunch and spend the night in our lodge with private bathrooms and showers. On the way we will observe a variety of animals.
After lunch and some time to relax, we will visit Cocha Machuwasi, where we will ride on a typical raft and observe a great variety of birds such as the shansho, monkeys, reptiles, dwarf caimans and insects, and perhaps capybaras. In the evening we will have a night walk.
Very early we will leave by boat to the green parrot clay lick (clay wall with minerals), where 3 to 4 species of parrots will be observed.
After this beautiful visit we will navigate the Alto Madre de Dios river for approximately 3 hours towards the native community of Shintuya, where we will be able to visit the population and on the way we will observe many kinds of birds and animals on the banks of the river. Then we will continue with the boat trip to the hot springs sector, where we can enjoy the benefits of its healing waters and take a relaxing bath after exploring the jungle. Then we will continue walking in the jungle until we reach the falls to admire the beauty of this place. In the afternoon we will return to the Paititi lodge. In the evening we will have a night walk (optional).
Unfortunately we return by boat from the Paititi hostel to Atalaya after our breakfast, where the bus awaits us to return to Cusco, again passing through the mysterious cloud forest to the Imperial city of Cusco. Approximate arrival at 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
