- About the Package
On this tour we will travel to the jungle passing through Paucartambo, where we will see the flora and fauna of the place; We will enter the jungle until we reach Pilcopata. We will stay in a very typical hostel outside the town enjoying the comforts it has.
The second day after having a delicious breakfast we will continue our trip by bus to Atalaya; After this stop, we will continue by boat to the Paititi lodge with enough comfort to be in the jungle. We will also see animals and the beautiful fauna.
Tonight we will rest in this lodge to continue our third day and visit the parrot clay lick to then return to Pilcopata by boat and then return to Cusco ending our tour.
- Itinerary
First we start with the pick up from your hotel between 5:30 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. And then we leave Cusco, we will ascend to the upper area of Paucartambo on the way we will visit the Funeral Towers or Chullpas de Ninamarca at 3750 meters above sea level and then a brief visit to Paucartambo, a folkloric town, a colonial bridge. We ascend the sector of Acjanaco. (4000 m.s.n.m.) This is the entry point to the Manu National Park. Then we descend through the mysterious cloud forest full of orchids, heliconias and primitive ferns.
Finally we made a walk to witness the Cock of the Rocks (Rupícola Peruviana). There are also chances to observe Trogons (Trogon sp.), Quetzales (Pharomachrus sp.) If we are lucky we can observe Spectacled Bear (Tremantus Ornatos). In the afternoon we arrive at a town called Pilcopata at 550 masl in our typical hostel that is outside the town with private bathrooms and showers where we will spend the night.
After a delicious breakfast, we explore the jungle by bus to Atalaya (height of 490 masl.) On the way we will observe coca plantations and many species of monkeys, then we will embark by boat for 30 minutes to the Paititi lodge. We will spend the night in our lodge typical with private toilets and showers.
After the delicious lunch, in the afternoon we will go to Cocha Machuwasi, where we will ride on a typical catamaran of the area, to observe a great variety of birds such as the Shansho (Ophisthocomus hoazin), monkeys, reptiles, dwarf caimans and insects, and perhaps some capybaras (Hydrochaerus hydrochaeris). At night we have the optional Night Trekking program. Night in hostel with private bathrooms and showers.
Very early we go by boat for 45 minutes to the parrot clay lick (clay wall with minerals), to be able to appreciate 3 to 4 species of green parrots, which come by the hundreds to this place to be able to feed on the clays of the place with natural salts and minerals. Then we will have a delicious breakfast to continue exploring and return by boat to Atalaya, and continue our tour by bus passing through Pilcopata (550 meters above sea level), Patria, Chontachaca, again passing through the mysterious cloud forest to the Imperial city. We will visit the cloud forest again. Approximate arrival from 6.30 to 7:00 p.m. to the city of Cusco.
