Ausangate is located 100 km southwest of the Cusco region, in the Vilcanota mountain range. With an elevation of 6,384 meters, it is one of the highest mountains in Peru. The region is inhabited by farming communities of llamas and alpacas, one of the few that still remain in the world.

Today, the Ausangate hike is one of the most famous in the region. The trek offers mountainous landscapes and natural beauty, combined with a geography of many contrasts, with many glaciers and colorful blue lagoons, as well as its picturesque valleys. Here lives a great variety of flora and fauna along the way, including chinchillas, vicuñas, Andean foxes and the magnificent Andean condor, among other species. Do not forget that the famous rainbow mountain and the circuit of the 7 lagoons can be found in this same region near the magnificent Ausangate mountain.

TOUR TO THE 7 TURQUOISE LAGOONS OF AUSANGATE PERU + THERMAL BATHS

The 7 Lagoons Ausangate Tour This is a full day hike in the Ausangate region of Peru. Our trip will start at 4 am. We will pick you up from your hotel and take a 3-hour drive to Pacchanta. This place is located at 4200 meters above sea level and passes through the town of Tinke. This means that the temperatures will be lower than those of Cusco itself. Once in Pacchanta they will have a hot breakfast. After breakfast and a little rest, we will begin our walk towards the lagoons of the Ausangate region.

The walk will be approximately 5 hours and will take us along the path where we will see the different lagoons such as Azulcocha, Otorongo, Pucacocha, Alqacocha and Q'omercocha. That is not the only remarkable thing, we will also see the snow-capped peaks that surround this area. Among them are the Ausangate (6834 m.), the Mariposa (5842 m.), the Jampa (5500 m.), the Pucapunta (5740 m.), the Caracol (5625 m.), the Tinke (5300 m.)

This area is located in the Andean region, which means that the weather is changeable. You can expect from cold temperatures to the impact of the sun. For this reason, we advise you to bring a hat or cap and to use a good sunscreen to avoid burns and headaches.

Along the way we will have the opportunity to see the local flora and fauna. From different types of birds, vicuñas and llamas.

The views are impressive, and you will have the opportunity to visit all the different lagoons as you return the same way. The return will be easier and faster walking back towards Pacchanta. Once you reach the trailhead, your chef will have a hot lunch ready to re-energize you. Pacchanta has a series of hot springs that you can use to relax and soothe your sore muscles. This water is naturally warm and will be the perfect end to a long hike. You will be able to enjoy this before lunch and then recuperate while enjoying a great meal cooked just for you.

Once lunch is over, we will take our transportation back to Cusco and to your hotel to take a well-deserved rest.

DIFFICULTY

It is a full day trekking with a distance of 15 km. Due to the climate and elevation we can consider this trek as medium difficulty.

More than the trekking itself, the increase in elevations is the most challenging part of this experience. If you wish, you can rent a horse for the trekking part.
